Sew, you want to learn!

Sewing classes are conducted in the Kismet Cottage, and sewers are welcome from all over the BC interior. You learn skills that apply to anything you sew, from your own clothing and mending to home decor. Each level introduces new techniques while reinforcing the ones you already know. You dont have to own a machine to learn as everything you'll need is available in the Studio.  You learn in a non-intimidating, comfy, cozy, and fun environment.  Individual attention is a given, as there are only 3 students per class.

Studio Membership is awarded to our students, entitling them the use of training material (video and paper) and sewing equipment at any time (between classes and scheduled appointments).

LEVEL 1  -  beginner basics

If you haven't sewn before or you did eons ago and need to start over, this class is for you. We’ll start by getting to know the machines and their capabilities then get comfortable using it by practicing stitching swatches.  Supplies and fabric are included to make your first project, a pretty cool butcher's apron (male, female, child sizes). Only one word of advice, DON’T WAIT TO REGISTER: Only three (3) stations are available in order to give you maximum attention and time to mingle and share in the fun.  By the end of 12 hours of lessons, you will appreciate why digging deep into the basics is so very important when producing professional looking garments. This very informative and fun class will make you fall in love with the art of sewing. Register for level 1 only or select a special package, level 1, 2, &3, for a discounted price. LEVEL 2  -  top to bottom

In this 2 or 4 week class you will tackle a shirt and casual pants or cotton pajamas, finishing able to make your next outfit with ease. If you don't have a serger now, you will use one in the studio and learn the reason they are a staple in the sewing rooms of all experienced sewers. The pattern you will be using is provided and fabric can be selected from the studio stash. Upon completion of this class, you'll see that the sky is the limit and be ready for level 3, only one step away from sewing to perfection.

Register for level 2 alone or a package of level 2 and 3 at a discounted price.  Select 'book now' for details.

 LEVEL 3  -  upgrade &/or improve

You and two other sewers will advance your skills, rusty or not, to add finesse to your projects. The attention to detail is foremost when producing a flawless garment.  You will learn sewing techniques used to produce a garment of handmade, professional quality rather than something that just looks homemade. A summer robe, or a lined skirt are the projects you pick to compete during this 12 hour class.  These new skills will advance you to a higher level, readying you for bigger challenges and giving you the confidence to tackle new projects with ease. All supplies and patterns are included.

LEVEL 4 -   fitting

You set out to sew the perfect outfit with gorgeous material, sew each step with precision then find it doesn't fit right.  With each adjustment you make, something else goes askew.  During this class, we concentrate on getting that outfit, and everything you make from here on in, to fit just right, using the Palmer/Pletsch tissue fitting method. You will be taught how to customize patterns so they are perfectly suited to your body type without making muslins or taking and recording miles of measurements.  If you are generally 'hard to fit', you won't be after this 28 hour course and will take away a map of your personal body type to use time and time again. Palmer/Pletsch perfect fit patterns for a sheath dress and waist band pants are included. Only four sewers can participate in this chock-full, instructional and fun class so don't miss out... Over the years, I traveled through-out Canada and the US participating in workshops in pattern drafting, advanced sewing and fitting techniques taught by well known professionals. I believed there were others in the Okanagan like me who would like to have training available to them without having to travel at great expense. Thus the Sewing Studio was born. You now have the opportunity to learn a variety of sewing techniques right here, in person. At the Studio, I am proud to make expert training available to you and, as a certified Palmer/Pletsch Sewing and Fitting Instructor, I am able to offer personalized training on a variety of subjects.  If there is a particular topic you would like to learn about (making jeans, lingerie, knits, costumes and lots of etc's.), it can be arranged.  Subscribe to this website and you will be of the first to receive information and dates on workshops as they are made available.  Call or email to sign up for workshops at copycutfashions@gmail,com.
